Now I have to install 200 updates and it still trashed Office. I had a Technet subscription for several years and upgraded my computer which came with Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 8 and then 8.1 Enterprise for my work (I write and edit training materials on MS Windows and Office products, so always have the latest and greatest on at least one computer. I can't find the product key that I used from the technet installation. Can I possibly use the same steps to down grade to Home Premium because that sticker is on the bottom of my computer? Or do you have any other thoughts? It's all been legal and ethical upgrades. But I don't really need enterprise on this computer, but really would like to move to Windows 10. I much prefer it, but couldn't for a few months because of a contract requiring Windows 8.1.Elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15715721075910382856noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7396481053359703519.post-80962048135311390152016-01-19T19:57:43.160+01:002016-01-19T19:57:43.160+01:00Hi Henk,

I thought I would add my experience in case it helps someone else coming here.

I wanted to update from 8.1 Enterprise to 10 Pro.

I made the registry changes as you described but was unable to run either the Windows 10 install or the Windows 8.1 Pro install from within Windows.

Every time, it asked for a key and no matter which key I tried to put in - a valid 8.1 pro key, an 8.1 Enterprise key, a 7 Pro key, it wouldn't accept any of them. Were you asked for a key at any point?

Anyway, I had fairly much given up so I ran the latest updates for 8.1 and rebooted. A few minutes after, the 'Update to Windows 10' icon appeared in the systray. I thought I might as well give it a go, not expecting very much (or waiting for it too to ask for a key) but it installed Windows 10 Pro no problem.

I went to activate, which at first didn't work (presumably because it still had details of the 8.1 Enterprise key) but I changed the key to a valid 8.0 Pro key I had hanging around and it activated just fine.

Job done, and all my machines are finally on Windows 10.

Cheers.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7396481053359703519.post-7321922875530908682016-01-17T13:50:09.700+01:002016-01-17T13:50:09.700+01:00Facing trouble here ..
